Job Purpose

The Head of Communications will be accountable to Director of Policy and Communications and play a key role within the Policy & Communications Directorate to protect, manage and enhance ONR’s reputation. This role will be the strategic lead for ONR’s communication services, including staff engagement and reputation management. The role will lead the communications team to deliver ONR’s stakeholder engagement strategy, brand management and development, internal and digital engagement, media relations, and crisis communications.

The role will also work more broadly with the Director and Head of Policy to manage ONR’s public affairs – including general enquiries, government and international liaison, and horizon scanning activity. It will also require significant leadership across ONR, working at all levels, including Board members and directors, to develop and nurture effective strategic relationships with industry, government, NGOs, the public, academia, other regulators and the media and provide strategic handling advice and direction.

As a member of the Policy and Communications Directorate Management team, you will be providing insight, intelligence and analysis from external stakeholders and the public to support ONR to deliver its Strategy, annual Corporate Plans and the Directorate’s Business Plan. This will include specific delivery responsibilities within the Directorate’s business plan and milestone plan, for which you will be accountable. You will deputise for the Director as necessary, play a key role in the Directorate’s governance and management and be the professional lead for communications within ONR.
