The Deputy Head Communications will be accountable to Head of Communications and play a key role within the Policy & Communications Directorate to:
This role will be the operational lead for ONR’s communication services, leading on day-to day planning and management across products and channels, working with a range of specialists and delivery leads within the team. It will have specific delivery responsibilities and accountabilities, including personally leading on some strategic campaigns and publications, that support the delivery of ONR’s Strategy 2020-25, Corporate Plan and Policy and Communications Directorate Plan.
The post-holder will support the Head of Communications and Director of Policy and Communications, to drive forward our ambitious Stakeholder Engagement Strategy 2020-25 and promote the early integration of strategic communications into corporate milestones. It will also be pivotal to modernising our communications services and channels, with a keen focus on building our digital capability and accessibility, leading quality assurance and driving efficiencies in systems and processes to embed a “right first time” culture in the Communications Team. The post holder will be confident working across all disciplines - including reputation management, media relations, internal engagement, stakeholder engagement, brand management and development, and crisis communications.
You will deputise for the Head of Communications as necessary and play a key role in the Directorate’s governance and management. Working with the wider Directorate Management Team, the role will help to manage ONR’s public affairs – including general enquiries, government and international liaison, horizon scanning activity and insight gathering. It will also work across ONR, supporting regulatory teams, to develop and nurture effective strategic relationships with industry, government, NGOs, the public, academia, other regulators, the media and deliver first-class staff engagement. Integral to the post will be the provision of strategic handling advice and direction across all of ONR’s activities.
