Job Purpose

This is an exciting role for a highly motivated strategic thinker to enhance and manage ONRs’ integrated strategic and corporate planning and prioritisation framework with a focus on embedding and raising the profile of effective business planning in the organisation.

The role will be responsible for embedding an effective strategic and corporate planning framework for the organisation, ensuring systems and processes are in place for effective planning, translation of the strategic objectives at operational level and monitoring the implementation of strategic and business plans. We are looking for a talented individual with the ability to act independently, on their own initiative, who is confident and capable of working at pace.

About The Role

The role is suited to an experienced strategic planning manager who will be responsible for contributing to the development and provision of strong and effective corporate planning throughout the organisation with a key influence over corporate processes and practices and providing advice and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team. The role will involve instilling a professional, supportive and inclusive culture that emphasises a joined up ‘one-ONR’ approach to our annual and strategic planning activity that includes budgeting, workforce planning, change planning, performance reporting, Annual Report and Accounts, etc.

This is a key role for the organisation to provide cross-functional support and advice to the Head of Finance & Commercial and the Finance Director in co-ordinating the strategic, corporate and business planning activity across the organisation to ensure it is robust, timely and fit for purpose. The role will also support the implementation and embedding of workforce planning and prioritisation across the organisation.

This will necessitate working closely with all directorates, providing professional, exemplary and effective leadership, oversight, and support to the Senior Leadership Team and more widely across the organisation.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Embed the integrated strategic governance (planning) framework within ONR; providing cross-functional support to the Finance Director in co-ordinating and overseeing activity to embed effective planning throughout the organisation.
  • Support colleagues introduce and embed workforce planning and prioritisation disciplines throughout the organisation.
  • Identify, develop and implement initiatives to improve corporate planning in ONR; this will include developing, communicating and embedding robust processes and controls supported by a thorough upskilling programme for individuals in the organisation.
  • Provide leadership, oversight and support to new planning initiatives and / or continuous improvement developments as appropriate to secure efficient and effective delivery.
  • Engagement with both regulatory and enabling functions to support cyclical planning activity; inspiring leadership and improving capability to meet ONR future needs; contribute to the wider leadership of ONR supporting organisational initiatives and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to keep appraised of business and specialism developments.
  • Ensure areas of responsibility are adequately documented and are kept up to date in accordance with business requirements.
  • Contribute to the identification, development of enhanced planning and prioritisation information, measures and key business performance indicators
  • Share knowledge and experience and collaborate with other business areas.
  • Actively assist managers and colleagues to promulgate knowledge between teams and directorates.
  • Contribute to the development of planning skills, awareness and capabilities across the organisation, providing training and awareness activities throughout ONR.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and enhance value for money in planning and prioritisation throughout the organisation.
  • Provide assurance to senior management and the Board of effective planning and control and achievement of organisational objectives through robust performance reporting and key performance indicators.
  • Establish regular reporting disciplines and keep management and other key stakeholders fully appraised of progress and timelines.
