Job Purpose

Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is responsible for all nuclear sector regulation across the UK. ONR's mission is to provide efficient and effective regulation of the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public.

As a Project Manager in ONR, you will be delivering diverse projects of change. You will be responsible for shaping major change initiatives to enable the realisation of business strategies along with optimising benefits across projects to ensure delivery of outcomes that meet cost, quality and timescale objectives.

You will be working in a team of change professionals and your role will extend to the matrix management of project team members. You will report directly to the Head of Programme Management Office.

Principal Responsibilities

Working with a diverse group of stakeholders including internal and external partners you will be responsible for delivering project outcomes. Working with partners and colleagues to assure that the desired benefits are achieved, responsibilities will extend across the whole programme lifecycle, from individual project initiation through to implementation and closure of the project upon benefit realisation.

You will need to be a strong communicator, able to understand and manage conflicting stakeholder requirements, manage expectations and escalate risks and issues as required to manage expectations. Above all else you will be the kind of person who can work in a team, act from their own initiative and make recommendations that act in the best interests of the organisation.

As a member of the PMO you will work closely with the Portfolio Manager and the Head of PMO to help embed project management principles and programme delivery systems across ONR, ensuring that your projects support the realisation of the wider programme benefits and outcomes.

Corporate Duties

  • Work collaboratively with peers to improve ONR culture, ways of working and outcomes
  • Contribute to PMO continuous improvement activities to ensure processes remain ‘fit for purpose’

Key Operational Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning, management and coordination of projects throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordination of projects and their work packages, considering dependencies and opportunities for scope development across wider business change incentives.
  • Ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget, and that the project's objectives are met.
  • Oversee the project to ensure the desired result is achieved, the most efficient resources are used and the different interests involved are satisfied.
  • Engagement with a diverse group of stakeholders to influence the direction of projects to meet business goals.
  • Implement and manage project governance to support project delivery in accordance with the central PMO standards
  • Evaluating the success of the project against its benchmarking and share lessons or best practice with other project managers and colleagues.
  • Work through and support central PMO governance procedures, to support standardised project delivery across the organisation.
  • Identify and monitor progress against risks and issues, providing business led mitigations and contingency plans and escalating to the Portfolio Manager as required.
  • Build and maintain working networks, identifying best practice from internal departments, our strategic partners and customers to support the development of a change management community within ONR and its wider stakeholders
  • Motivate and support team members to create a high performing environment
