Job Purpose

The Office for Nuclear Regulation is responsible for the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. Our mission is to provide efficient and effective regulation of the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public.

The focus of the Finance Directorate is on enabling efficient and effective business delivery by working collaboratively, informing business decision making, adding, driving and protecting value throughout the organisation. 

About The Role

The Senior Management Accountant will support the Finance Directorate in the delivery of ONR’s corporate plan and strategic vision. The role sits within the Management Accounts, Budgeting and Income area of the Directorate, and works flexibly across a range of responsibilities providing professional financial support to all areas of the business. As a pivotal member of the Finance Directorate you will lead on the budgeting procedure and support the provision of our industry charging methodology and processes, working in a busy department and providing highly accurate and timely information to Senior Management throughout ONR.

Core standard aspects of the role will include:

  • Lead on the monthly, quarterly and annual budgeting process, liaising with relevant colleagues throughout the business, working to set deadlines.
  • Engagement in routine month end and year end processes as well as providing team resilience for business needs
  • Provision of financial support and advice to ONR, responding to queries and providing business planning advice
  • Engage in ad-hoc costing exercises and highly complex financial forecasts as required
  • Involvement in the financial planning process and financial strategy development
  • Represent ONR at relevant internal and external meetings
  • Assist in the production of the Annual Report and Accounts, liaising with Internal and National Audit Office.
  • Support the ONR charging process ensuring charges to Industry are raised accurately and timely, supporting fair and transparent invoicing.
  • To provide flexible cover across the finance function, to build experience and understanding of the directorate.
